The Feminine Genius (Saint John Paul II) September 17: Saint Hildegard of Bingen, Nun and Doctor of the Church Hildegard was born in Bermesheim, Germany, in 1098, the youngest of ten children. Her baptismal name, literally translated, means "she who is bold in battle." She entered the convent at the age of eight at the Abbey of Disibodenberg. She led the community and later founded—between 1147 and 1150—the monastery of Rupertsberg, near Bingen, and in 1165, a second one on the opposite bank of the river. Although she was of delicate health and prone to illness, she lived to the age of 81, passing away on September 17, 1179, after a life filled with work, struggles, and spiritual conflicts, all tempered by divine missions.
