Bishop Morerod: FSSPX Treated "Ecumenical", Like a Non-Catholic Community

Bishop Charles Morerod of the Diocese of Lausanne, Geneva and Fribourg, Switzerland, said he no longer sees how a request to use a diocesan church for an FSSPX event could be granted today.
He was asked about October 5, 2019, when the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X celebrated its 50th anniversary at St. Maurice Church in Fribourg. Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre opened its first house of formation for seminarians in Fribourg in October 1969 before moving the seminary to Ecône in 1970.
Speaking to Cath.ch on July 12, Bishop Morerod explained that his 2019 decision reflected a different moment in the relationship between the Priestly Fraternity and Rome: "When I approved the use of a diocesan church back then, it was done in a spirit of goodwill, at a time when a rapprochement between the FSSPX and Rome was still possible."
He added that the FSSPX has "no intention whatsoever of entering into any process of reconciliation."
Bishop Morerod said future dialogue would be on different terms:…Ọzọ

Northern Ireland: Carrying a Bible Can Be a Criminal Offence

On July 2, the Northern Ireland Policing Board published guidance on how Safe Access Zone legislation applies to hospital ministry.
The zones extend up to 100 metres (extendable to 250 metres) around premises that kill unborn children. Three groups are protected: mothers attending for abortion, anyone accompanying them, and staff.
The flagged activities are:
- prayer with patients during end-of-life care
- scripture reading requested by patients or families
- carrying Bibles or religious materials through public areas of hospitals
- consensual pastoral ministry within wards or hospital grounds
- visible religious practice within areas covered by Safe Access Zones
These religious actions could constitute an offence within a designated zone. It is enough if a "reasonable person" would consider them capable of influencing, or "causing distress" to, a mother seeking an abortion - even if there is no intent to do so.
The guidance states there is no exemption for clergy or religious activity …Ọzọ

“We’ve had ten deals with these people, and so we’re just going to hit them very hard,” Trump claimed, adding that the US is going to “guard” Hormuz and going to get paid “a lot of money.”
Yes! And each deal he hit them during those talks and right after. And going to get paid a lot of money? His greed is as bad as his lying and pride. This is why GOD keeps humiliating him.

US ‘taking over’ Strait of Hormuz – Trump

Washington will be the “guardian angel” of the waterway, and will get paid for it, the US president has claimed US President Donald Trump has claimed that America is “taking over” the Strait of Hormuz from Iran, and will act as the “guardian angel” of the key waterway “and get paid for it.” Tehran has earlier declared the strait closed, blaming “hostile actions” by US forces. Speaking by phone to ‘Fox & Friends’ on Monday, Trump said Iran was getting its “ass kicked” in the war against the US, asserting that the country’s navy, air force and missile capabilities had been “virtually annihilated” and listing senior Iranian leaders he said had been killed. He added that US troops were continuing to carry out strikes against Iranian targets after he declared a ceasefire with Tehran to be “over” this past weekend. “We’re taking over the strait. They’ve got nothing,” Trump said, arguing that Washington should have dealt with what he called the Iran threat “47 years ago.” He accused …

FSSPX Files Appeal against the July 2 Decree

The Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X is formally challenging the Vatican decree issued on 2 July by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith that excommunicated its six bishops. On 11 July, it filed the required preliminary appeal under canon law. According to the Society, this filing temporarily suspends the enforcement of the decree while the appeal process is underway.
Communiqué of 13 July
The Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X announces that, in response to the decree issued on 2 July 2026 by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, it submitted on 11 July a preliminary recourse to the same Dicastery, in accordance with canons 1734 and following of the Code of Canon Law.
This request, which constitutes the mandatory preliminary step before the possible introduction of a hierarchical recourse, has the effect of suspending the execution of the decree, in accordance with canon 1353 of the Code of Canon Law.
By this recourse, the Society intends to exercise the right which …Ọzọ

A very good strategic move, regardless of the outcome.

The outcome of the purported excommunication of the six bishops today will be far different from the outcome of the 1988 excommunications.
In 1988, there was no visible reason for Catholics to doubt Pope John Paul II’s sincerity as a faithful Catholic. In the minds of most of the laity at the time, he at least appeared to be faithfully following the authentic teachings of the Church, at the same time. The SSPX was completely unknown to the world and was easily labeled as a breakaway religion. Yet, they survived and grew unimaginably.
That is not the case today, as many Novus Ordo Catholics, whether they follow them or not, recognize that the SSPX strictly adheres to the authentic teachings of the Catholic Church, and that it is the leaders in Rome who are following the teachings of Vatican II.
I would be greatly surprised not to learn that Rome is looking (praying?) for a lifeline at this time.

Leo XIV's New Bishop of Eichstätt Continues Debate on Celibacy

The newly appointed Bishop Christian Würtz of Eichstätt, Germany, expects further debate over priestly celibacy, he told Br.de on July 12.
On Tuesday, Pope Leo XIV appointed him from auxiliary bishop of Freiburg to the diocesan bishop of Eichstätt. During Germany's Synodal Way in 2022, he voted in favour of "blessings" for homosexual concubines and the "ordination" of women-clergy.
When asked about his predecessor, Msgr. Gregor Maria Hanke, who voted against those Synodal Way documents, Bishop Würtz said: "I think it goes too far to conclude from that that there are fundamental differences between him and me."
He described the different beliefs as "factional disputes."
Instead, he said, the focus should be on "what unites us": "That is also an important aspect of synodality - listening to one another, walking together, and learning from one another."
When it came to the topic of priestly celibacy, Bishop Würtz said: "This will certainly be a question that continues to occupy us in the …Ọzọ

U.S. and Canadian Jesuits Consolidate Novitiates

A decline in religious vocations has prompted the Jesuits in the United States and Canada to restructure the way they train future members of the pro-homosexual order.
The Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States has announced that it will reduce the number of its novitiates from five to two by 2028. This decision was communicated in a letter dated 9 July and signed by the superiors of the conference's five provinces.
Under the new arrangement, one novitiate will be located in Detroit, Michigan, serving the USA Midwest, USA East and Canada provinces, while the second will remain in Culver City, California, serving the USA West and USA Central and Southern provinces. Each facility is expected to accommodate up to 30 novices.
"Running five novitiates takes an awful lot of high-quality Jesuit personnel," Fr. Joseph Daoust, SJ, superior of the Detroit Jesuit community, told DetroitCatholic.com on July 10. "Each novitiate requires three to four experienced Jesuits dedicated to …Ọzọ

How Severe Is the Priest Shortage in French Dioceses?

French dioceses face a worsening vocation crisis, despite claims of improvement in seminary recruitment, Laurent Dastros writes on July 9 on Substack.com.
Dastros notes that, as of 2026, three French dioceses - Aire-et-Dax, Le Puy-en-Velay, and Le Havre - have gone between 12 and 14 years without a diocesan priestly ordination.
Carcassonne et Narbonne ended a 19-year gap in 2025 with the ordination of a 51-year-old candidate.
Annecy and Rodez could join this list next year if they continue without new ordinations.
Longer-Term Picture
Dastros calculates that between 2011 and 2026, only three dioceses recorded a single diocesan priestly ordination: Carcassonne et Narbonne, Rodez et Vabres, and Pamiers, Couserans et Mirepoix.
Based on the assumption that priests remain in active ministry for approximately 50 years, he estimates that, if current trends continue, each of these dioceses could eventually have only about three native diocesan priests.
He further identifies seven dioceses that …Ọzọ

Seven Years in the SSPX

Written by Cassandra Hackstock
On a sunny Santa Clara mountainside, I stood in shocked silence. It was lunchtime at the retreat center, and the buffet was ready. Prayers were said, and everyone stood. An unassuming woman in a loose-fitting dress leaned over to me and to the other women, and said, “Stand by your chairs until the men have gone through the buffet line, and then we will eat.” My jaw dropped — I couldn’t help it. Most of the women accepted this business of the men eating first without any visible opinions, but there was sometimes another person present in Society gatherings who was more aligned with what I call “normal,” and as I looked at the other women, I found one. Her mouth was open, too, and we just looked at each other in disbelief.
During the retreat, this center would play audio commentary of the bombing of Dresden during World War II, with graphic descriptions of people being burned alive, at every meal, to show us how horrible hell would be. Definitely would be …Ọzọ

Homosexual Activists Invited to Leo XIV's Meeting with Civil Society

Madrid's homosexual activist group Crismhom published recently photos on social media from its attendance at Leo XIV's meeting with "civil society" during his visit to Spain.
On June 7, the group became the first homosexual organization officially invited to a papal event in Spain. The invitation came from pro-homosexual Cardinal José Cobo of Madrid.
Speaking to Artículo14.es, Crismhom president Ramón Legaspi Yrimia said the invitation showed "that the diverse Church exists and has a voice" and that "we, as LGBTI people, are part of the Church, not something foreign to it."
Later that day, Crismhom members attended the Pope's public Eucharist in Madrid, where they called for recognition of Catholic homosexual activists "as first-class Christians" and demanded access to the sacrament of marriage (!) "without distinction."

16 By their fruits you will know them. Does one pick grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 In the same way, every good tree bears good fruit, but a rotten tree produces bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruits you will know them.

[EN/DE] ☢️ Will Kharg Island blitz be a smokescreen for Trump's ground invasion of Iran or pretext for nuclear strike?
Donald Trump's renewed Kharg Island fixation has resurfaced just as US and Iranian strikes intensify, prompting military observers to ask whether the island is merely a cover for a much broader agenda.
➡️ It would be exceptionally difficult for Navy SEALs or Delta Force operators to reach Kharg Island under sustained Iranian drone and missile attacks, former CIA analyst Larry Johnson says in a recent Deep Dive clip
➡️ Even if they managed to land, sustaining them would be nearly impossible. They would still need a constant flow of water, food, ammunition, medical supplies, and protective cover. Meanwhile, Iran would almost certainly continue striking them, making resupply and reinforcement extremely difficult
➡️ It's highly probable that Trump would authorize the operation this week, believes geopolitical analyst Brandon Weichert. Elements of the US Army's 82nd Airborne …Ọzọ
