Gänswein avoids answering question about the traditional Latin Mass. During an October 17 interview on Twitch.tv, Archbishop Georg Gänswein was asked whether the more liberal German Church could learn from growing interest in Catholicism among young people in France and the US. The interviewer specifically mentioned the “Mass according to old rites” as a possible reason for success there. Gänswein did not directly address the old Mass. Instead, he said young people are “searching for answers” and finding “nourishment” in the Gospel and the Church’s message. He stressed that faith is not merely “something I have intellectually in my head.” What matters, he said, is a relationship with “the person who is essential to Christianity, namely Jesus Christ.”
