The Catholic Women's Community of Germany (kfd) has called for abortions to be permitted in Catholic hospitals, adopting the position at its federal assembly in Mainz last weekend. Delegates approved by a large majority an eleven-page policy paper titled "Between the Protection of Life and Self-Determination: The kfd's Positions and Perspectives on Section 218 of the German Criminal Code." The document states that "pregnancy terminations must also be possible in Catholic hospitals," claiming that the current lack of access endangers the physical and mental health of mothers with unintended pregnancies. The paper also criticizes what it describes as "fundamentalist and anti-democratic" influences in the abortion debate and warns against uncritical support for pro-life groups such as the "March for Life" movement. A group of Polish Catholics led by Artur Dąbrowski, president of Catholic Action of the Archdiocese of Częstochowa, has issued an open letter criticizing the Synod on Synodality. The letter expresses concern over both the report of Study Group No. 9 (2026) and the Final Document of the Synod on Synodality (2024). The authors describe the Synod's Final Document as “deeply anti-Catholic,” arguing that it risks replacing the Church's unchanging Deposit of Faith with an ideology centered on inclusion, consensus, and process. The Synod adopts elements similar to Germany's Synodal Path, particularly through the relativization of doctrine and the decentralization of authority. Conservatives have also been fooled by the appearance of a Western coup in Ukraine in 2014 that overthrew a “duly elected” president, Viktor Yanukovich, an open Communist. This notion disturbed conservatives and contributed to the propaganda that Russia was provoked into attacking Ukraine, and has led to conservatives ignorantly supporting Russia in the Ukraine war. But it wasn’t really a western coup even though the US Endowment for Democracy did give many millions to fund the protest in the Maidan square in Kiev. Just as the “fall of Communism” was a grand deception, so was the Orange Revolution in Ukraine. The proof is found in the fact that the protest went on for months, bottled up in the Maidan square, and surrounded by the Berkut (Ukrainian riot police). In my last post I looked at Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira’s concept of the Revolution as outlined in Revolution and Counter-Revolution, which is a defining text of the Tradition, Family and Property movement. In this post I will examine the complementary concept of the Counter-Revolution and provide examples of some of its implications. Much of what makes TFP so controversial, and almost a religion unto itself, are the practices attached to the concept of the Counter-Revolution. These practices are often focused on the imitation of its historical models: “Dr. Plinio” and his mother, Dona (“Lady”) Lucilia. Corrêa de Oliveira’s Counter-Revolution is, very simply, an elitist reaction to the Revolution. It is just as totalizing in its scope and demands as the Revolution, and thus allows for little compromise or nuance.
