The episcopal consecrations in Ecône, Switzerland, today should lead the Church to reconsider the restrictions on the Mass in the Roman rite, Cardinal Gerhard Müller told IlGiornale.it on July 1. The restrictions imposed by Traditionis Custodes (2021) have only strengthened the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (FSSPX) by giving them "a symbol of dissent against Rome". Leo XIV has overhauled the Vatican's financial watchdog, replacing its long-standing board-led structure with a director appointed directly by the pope.
